​A well designed Heat Pump system provides the lowest running cost of any heating system using only a small amount of electricity to transfer a large amount of naturally occurring heat from the ground or air into your property

Products approved by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme qualify for the Governments Domestic Renewable Heating Incentive scheme for home-owners, private and social landlords who want to install renewable heating systems in their homes in England, Wales and Scotland. It is designed to cover the cost of a heat pump system.

The Renewable Heating Incentive

In the majority of cases the Renewable Heat Incentive will cover the system cost and may provide you with an additional sum every three months for the seven year period

The cost of Heat Pump systems is subsidised by the Governments Renewable Heat Incentive  (RHI) scheme

  • Guaranteed payments made every 3 months for 7 years based on deemed energy consumption from your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

  • 20.46 pence/kWh tariff for Ground Source Heat Pumps and 10.49 pence/kWh for Air Source Heat Pumps at time of publication

  • All self-build and domestic renovation projects are eligible, as well as domestic heating replacement schemes


  • Index linked tariff increases every year with inflation based upon the Consumer Price Index

Householder elects to proceed or decline 

Technical survey carried out in accordance with MCS guidelines

Specific RHI payments to householder calculated and proposal issued to householder

Customer contract produced

Installation dates arranged with customer

System installed, fully tested and commissioned

Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate issued

HIES deposit protection and consumer code issued

Customer handover completed


System registered with Ofgem for RHI payments

Ofgem inform householder of confirmed amount of quarterly payments
